THAI RESTAURANTS AND THAI FOOD IN LA

Thai food can be more accurately described as 4 regional cuisines matching to the four main regions of the country: Northeastern (or Isan), Northern, Central and Southern, each cuisine sharing similar foods or derived from those of neighboring countries. For example, Southern curries contain coconut milk and fresh turmeric, while northeastern dishes mostly contain lime juice. Thai food includes typical foods, beverages, and cooking styles common to the country of Thailand. Thai Cuisine is famous for being hot and spicy and its balance of five fundamental flavors in each dish or the overall meal – hot (spicy), sour, sweet, salty and bitter (optional). Thai food is known for its enthusiastic use of fresh (rather than dried) herbs and spices as well as fish sauce.

There are quite a lot Thai restaurants in LA where you will find great Thai dishes in a friendly atmosphere. These are great places to come to relax and enjoy a traditional Thai meal. Their menu items include homemade entrees such as a wide array of noodle dishes, curries, and rice dishes. Some also offer unique specialties like marinated house steak, fresh seafood dishes including Crazy Angel Fish which is a deep fried fillet of sole topped with shitake mushroom and baby-corn with a touch of ginger.

Jitlada Thai Cuisine

Jitlada Thai Cuisine is located at 5233 ½ W. Sunset Blvd in Los Angeles. They may not be in the safest location on the planet, but they are worth the risk.

Inside you will find attractive décor and elegance. The food is delicious. Seafood seems to be the crowd favorite and you can’t go wrong with traditional. Their Flame Prawns are large and succulent and delightful in red curry. The Squid salad is something I’d never had before and tastes delicious with a citrus and red onion flare. I’d also recommend the Bangkok Duck, it’s to die for.

Jitlada is open Mondays from 5pm to 10:30pm, Tues-Thurs, 11am to 10:30pm and Fridays & Saturdays from 11am to 11pm. You may call ahead with any questions 323-667-9809.

Chadaka Thai

Chadaka Thai is a one of a kind Thai restaurant in Burbank. Not only do they serve up traditional favorites, but they are also offering so much more. They bring out old family favorites that nobody else serves out here in California. They want to introduce you to the wonderful world of authentic Thai.

They never cook with MSG. They don’t think a good chef needs to use it. And they make their fresh curry pastes from scratch daily, they never use premade. Vegetables a fresh too, and you can tell the difference.

I’d start off with one of the small bites, either the Beef Waterfall or the Mee Krob. If you are vegetarian, try the pot stickers. The Green Pear Salad is delicious as well if you are a lettuce eater, but if you like something with a little kick try the Spicy Thai Salad.

For your entrée I suggest the New Zealand Lamb Chop, Garlic Prawns or Lemongrass Chicken. If you love seafood, maybe try the Halibut or the Spicy Catfish Fillet. Of course they serve up the traditional noodle and curry dishes and they even have delicious Snow Crab Fried Rice. Vegans will love their Asparagus and Shitake Mushrooms or the Basil Eggplant. To wash everything down with I’d suggest a beer or one of their specialty martinis.

Chadaka Thai is open Mon-Fri, from 11:30am to 10:30pm, and Sat-Sun, from noon to 10:30pm. This wonderful food is created and prepared by Head Chef Aunty Tim and the amazing service is run by Metha Maneesilisan. Restaurant is located at 310 San Fernando Blvd, in Burbank, 91502. Give them a call at 818-848-8520 or drop them an email at www.chadaka@msn.com. You may also want to visit their beautiful website at www.chadaka.com.
